What is the Matrix?
You've seen too many movies...Mr. Anderson.
How does the Canopy system work?
A wireless subscriber module (SM) is mounted somewhere on your home or business. A small ethernet cable is installed from the SM to your computer. The SM "talks" to an Access Point (AP) on one of our tower sites around your town. The systems can "talk" to each other from up to 25 miles away. NASA can "talk" to the Mars Rover from over 249,000,000 miles away. If you need Internet access on Mars...you've seen too many movies.
Is this Satellite Internet?
Although the Subscriber Module (SM) looks suspiciously like Satellite TV, it is not Satellite Internet. Please see the question above.
How is this different from Cable or DSL Internet service?
Our system is faster than typical DSL and Cable Internet service. In addition, most DSL and Cable services limit your upload speeds to between 128Kbps and 512Kbps. Our upload burst is 1Mbps, with sustained uploads of 512Kbps. Also, we love dogs. DSL and Cable Internet providers hate dogs.
How are you different from other Wireless Internet Service Providers?
We use wireless technology built around the Motorola Canopy System. This system has proven to be the best-of-breed for Wireless Internet Service. The Canopy system is a proprietary solution built by Motorola. Unlike typical 802.11 systems, the Canopy system is scaleable, reliable, and offers consistent high-speed performance. Also, we suspect other Wireless Internet Providers hate dogs.
What do I need to get your service?
You need a computer. You need a credit or debit card that we can bill. You need an ethernet card in your computer. Virtually any computer built in the last several years will already have an ethernet card built in. We aslo require that you have virus protection on your PC. We highly recommend Antivirus solutions from Eset (http://www.eset.com) or Kaspersky (http://www.kaspersky.com). If you must, you can get free anti-virus software at http://free.avg.com. We do not recommend Symantec Antivirus.
Do you offer email service?
We offer free email service to our customers. You can also use any of a myriad of free email systems on the Internet. We recommend Google mail or Yahoo mail.
What about SPAM?
We offer free SPAM filtering to our customers. The email providers listed above also provide free SPAM filtering.
Can I use multiple computers with this system?
Yes.
What is burstable speed vs sustained speed?
Burstable speed is the maximum speed that you can expect to see on any particular download. Sustained speed is the minimum speed that you can expect to see on any particular download. We allow you to burst on the first 5MB of downloading. So...
Let's say that you are downloading a 10MB file. The first 5MB of that file will download at the maximum speed that the SM can receive. After the first 5MB, the SM will rate-shift down to the sustained speed for the remainder of the download. When the download is completed, the SM will reset and allow you to download at the maximum speed.
For typical web usage, the SM will virtually never rate-shift. If you are constantly downloading huge amounts of data, the SM will continue to rate-shift you down to the speed that you are paying for.
What are your tech support policies?
We are happy to help you with any problems you may have with our system. However, we cannot support your home network, computer, gaming consoles, or other related issues. If you call for tech support, please have your computer connected directly to the ethernet cable that comes from the SM into your home. If we can "see" your computer on our network, then we consider the system to be working. If we cannot "see" your computer, and it is directly plugged into the SM, then we will schedule a tech to come to your home. If the problem is determined to be something other than the SM, we will charge for a truck-roll $67. If you would like to schedule a tech to setup a network, install software, setup your email, etc., we would love to help you. The charge is $67/hr.
Do you guarantee a service level?
The system is monitored 24/7/365. If there is a problem not related to your own equipment, then we are probably aware of it, and working on it. We promise to do our best to provide excellent customer service. Some things are beyond our control. If our Upstream providers are down, then we are down. If our fiber lines get cut, then we are down until the lines are repaired. These types of outages are very rare, but we cannot guarantee that you will never lose service. We can guarantee that we will do our best to exceed your expectations. |
